ENGR217 (old spec) Thermo L6 Tutorial 1, Problem 10 official answers

Wet steam is heated in a vertical cylinder, closed at the top by a moveable piston. Initially the cylinder contains 0.01 m3\mathrm{m^3} of liquid and 0.19 m3\mathrm{m^3} of vapour in equilibrium at 700 kPa. Heat is transferred at constant pressure until a temperature of 325 C is reached.

Formulas you may need
  • Mass of each phase: mf=Vf/vfm_f = V_f/v_f, mg=Vg/vgm_g = V_g/v_g (learn this)
  • Superheated steam table and linear interpolation (in TT and in pp) (learn this, Lecture 9)
