ENGR5003 Week 3 workshop sheet Q3 (Lecture 9 steam table examples) official answers

In-class examples show: how to check steam tables? Please download the steam tables ('Properties and Steam Tables') from the Moodle and complete the data checking by yourself in workshop.

The in-class examples (Lecture 9 worked example) are:

Formulas you may need
  • Wet steam: u=(1−x)uf+xugu = (1 - x)u_f + xu_g (and the same for vv, hh, ss) (on the formula sheet)
  • Linear interpolation: y−y1y2−y1=x−x1x2−x1\dfrac{y - y_1}{y_2 - y_1} = \dfrac{x - x_1}{x_2 - x_1} (learn this, Lecture 9)
  1. (a)
    Given p=100 kPap = 100\ \mathrm{kPa} and u=2000 kJ/kgu = 2000\ \mathrm{kJ/kg}, determine TT, vv, hh, ss, xx.
  2. (b)
    Given p=2250 kPap = 2250\ \mathrm{kPa} and s=6 kJ/kg/Ks = 6\ \mathrm{kJ/kg/K}, find hh.
  3. (c)
    Given p=10 barp = 10\ \mathrm{bar} and h=3000 kJ/kgh = 3000\ \mathrm{kJ/kg}, find TT.
  4. (d)
    Given T=40.3 ∘CT = 40.3\ ^\circ\mathrm{C} and v=10 m3/kgv = 10\ \mathrm{m^3/kg}, find pp.
