ENGR5004 Dynamics Session 1, slide 10 (Particles and rigid bodies)
The slide shows an aeroplane observed from a fixed reference point and two ways of modelling it:
- Rigid body simplification: no change in shape of the body, just displacement.
- Particle simplification: model the kinematics of the centre of mass.
Do particles and rigid bodies really exist? Explain why we use them, and say when each model is appropriate for the aeroplane.
